SUMHUA CONCERT: First Collaborative Concert Project of THEMSN

THEMSN or Thailand Higher Education Music Student Networks is a platform representing students from each university that runs music curriculums to share the identity and musical ideas to create the collaboration project and develop a better music society to benefit Thailand.

THEMSN committee brainstormed on the workshop sessions that were held on 17 - 18 November, 2018 at Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM). Each session was supervised by a music mentors, each specialized in performance, concert organisation, technical preparation, budget and plan, and evaluation. From the meeting result of the first collaborative project this year 2019, THEMSN committee launched a concert entitled “SUMHUA Concert”, under the subtheme “ฤกษ์งาน” (Ruek Ngan), which translated into “An Auspicious Occasion”. Student representatives from 17 universities students brainstormed and planned for their performance.

The program combined the traditional music from each part of Thailand together with Western music as cross-culture in music as well as catch the eyes by dancers and visuals as well as big-band repertoires. Performance held on Friday 8th of March. 2019 at Sangita Vadhana Hall, Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music sponsored by Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music.

The evaluation results, there were around two hundred audience who came to attend the concert. Of these, 64 people replied to the evaluation form. The resulting score is 4.39 out of 5, with S.D. of 0.67, which equals “GOOD” on the evaluated method by Likert scales. The general comments show that the audience would like to attend events like this again.

For the organisation side, 27 people out of 37 replied to the evaluation form, which yields the score of 4.07, with S.D. of 0.99, again “GOOD” on the evaluated method by Likert scales. The general comments show that they agreed with aims of concert project including the activities as well as the sharing of the idea of participation. In the development side, the comments show that the committee and work team would like to also have other activities besides the concert performance, such as a leadership camp. General problem is the physical distance during work process, which cause delay in communication and other organisational problems.

Next stop of THEMSN project will be officially hosted by Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, College of Music in 2020. The next official THEMSN meeting in turn will be hosted by the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music during the annual PGVIM International Symposium in August 2019. For the first time we would like to open the door to our international friends to join THEMSN.
